Hope everyone had a great spring and summer!
Looks like the first flakes are in the forecast, so its time to fire up the blog again. The national weather service says we may see a flurry Saturday with other scattered chances as we fall into a cool pattern from the weekend to later next week.
Temper the expectations though as the NWS goes on to say: “bottom line, first snowfall for southern Minnesota
is looking likely, but little to no accumulation expected.”
Even if this is just a few flurries, it seemed like a good chance to let people check in after the many months away. Welcome back and hopefully we have a snowy winter ahead!
Thanks for starting up the blog for this winter. Looks like trick or treating might be a tad 'flaky' and we will see if we get anything this weekend here in the metro. After a crazy hot 'dry' (til Sept/Oct) summer, I'm hoping for some decent snows this winter despite the El Niño 'warnings' of mild/dry around here. It's great to be back on minnesotaforecaster.
ReplyDeleteI'm so surprised it's quiet on here. We may get an inch or two in waves tonight in the metro...... it's a start!
ReplyDeleteOh I’ve been monitoring and waiting to see how it was/is going to play out for a few days, clipper systems are very unpredictable and fickle…sometimes you can get nothing when a few inches are forecasted and on the flip side maybe just a coating to an inch is forecasted n you get many surprises just a few miles apart in any direction….it’s snowing very hard just to the west of the metro currently….we’ll see how it shakes out overnight but this should be our first of the season.
DeleteAnd yes in a El Niño season snows around these parts could be hard to come by so it would be imperative to try to get as much as possible on the early snowfalls just to reach our average, I would warn most people not to expect anywhere near the snow we got last year….90+” is a rarity around here not the norm!!
First batch dropped a nice coating all throughout the metro, almost an inch(mainly on the grass)…another heavier batch moving into the metro as I type…for sure a winter wonderland(mixed with fall leaves) in the morning!
ReplyDelete3” not a bad start to our winter snowfall!
DeleteAwfully quiet in here before/after our first snowfall. COME ON PEEPS, BRING THE JUICE!!
We picked up 3 beautiful inches here in Plymouth last night/early this morning to kick off the season. Here’s hoping we get a Modoki El Niño, not a full blown El Niño, this season. Time will tell. Enjoy the snow and the anticipation of the upcoming winter season!
ReplyDeleteI would be remiss if I did not wish everybody a safe, fun Happy Halloween! Bundle up those kiddies against the cold!
ReplyDeleteHappy thanksgiving!
